Who's behind it
Why it exists
My working week is full of small file jobs: product photos that are too heavy for a store, JSON from an API that needs reading, database column names that need converting to camelCase, a PDF report that's too big to email. For years I used whatever online tool came up first, and too many of them were covered in pop-ups, added watermarks, demanded a sign-up or quietly uploaded my files to a server I knew nothing about.
I build accounting and e-commerce software, so I know how sensitive ordinary business documents are. I wanted tools that open instantly, do one job well, cost nothing and never ask you to hand your documents to a stranger. So I built them. The full story is in Why I Built kables.store.
What makes kables.store different
Your files stay on your device
Most online converters upload your file to a server, process it there and send it back. kables.store works differently. When you open a tool, your browser downloads the program code, and your own computer or phone does the processing. Your PDFs, photos and text are never uploaded to my server. You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, choose the Network tab and run a tool. Your file never appears in the list of requests.
Free, with no strings attached
There are no accounts, no daily limits, no premium tiers and no watermarks on your results. The site is supported by advertising, which is what keeps every tool free.
Clear, honest guidance
Each tool comes with a plain-English guide explaining how to use it, what the options mean and where its limits are. The blog goes further, with guides drawn from real developer work, from preparing product images for online stores to naming conventions in Laravel and JavaScript.
The tools
There are currently 23 free tools in three categories:
- PDF tools: merge, split, compress, rotate, convert, number, watermark and remove pages.
- Image tools: compress, resize, convert, crop, rotate and encode images.
- Text & utility tools: word counter, case converter, QR codes, passwords, JSON, Base64, age and percentage calculators.
They're built on well-established open-source libraries, including Mozilla's PDF.js and pdf-lib, plus features already built into your browser. I add and improve tools based on what people ask for, so if there's something you'd like to see, please get in touch.
Principles
- Privacy first: process files locally whenever it's technically possible.
- Accessibility: tools that work on any modern device, with keyboard support and a readable design.
- Honesty: explain the trade-offs, such as when compression makes text unselectable.
- Speed: lightweight pages that load quickly, even on mobile connections.
Thank you for using kables.store. If the tools save you time, the best way to support the site is to share it with a friend.
